Okushiga Kogen Hotel

Nozawa Fire Festival included in our Snobus Tour

It takes roughly one hundred villagers to build the shrine for the Nozawa Fire Festival. The trees are cut down in October and brought down from the mountain and through the village on January 13th prior to being made into a huge wooden structure or shaden. After theshaden has been constructed, the priest from Kosuge shrine performs a ceremony endowing it with a dosojin. The highlight on January 15th is a “fire-setting battle” which ends up with the setting fire of theshaden with blazing torches by the offensive team and the offering of torches to the deity, making the festival truly spectacular and exciting.

Last Trip Mt Hutt

Snowboarding Yes

Last year I experience for the first time Falls Creek and Mt Hutt.  Both ski resorts are great for families. Falls Creek is Australia’s snowplay capital and Mt Hutt offers kids 10 years and under ski free.

As well Japan in January last year, I was hitting up the slopes in Hakuba and along with boarding I experienced some Japanese culture at the Nozawa Fire festival, snow monkeys and the Sumo in Tokyo.

If you want a different cultural experience Japan is the way to go!

We can book your non- ski holiday anywhere in the world. Just ask me about Cambodia and Vietnam, I went on my first non-snow holiday in 6 years in November to celebrate a special milestone. And I have started planning a white Christmas to Germany & Denmark.
