5 ideas for a Snow Holiday at home!

We are missing the snow.

We miss travelling.

The entire country is practising social distancing (and doing a great job I might add) and strict travel restrictions are in place. This has meant that ski resorts are currently closed and may be for some time. I realise I am stating the obvious, but it has got me thinking – and yes that is something I do from time to time.

How can we, here in Queensland, improvise and pretend we are on a ski holiday? Here are my top 5 suggestions but I would love to hear if you have any of your own.

  1. Have a ski/snow movie night

Depending your home environment this could mean watching “Frozen” or “Frozen 2” with the younger kids or something more adventurous like “Mountain” which we really enjoyed watching on Netflix.

Miss Snow It All did a great piece on the 7 most inspiring mountain documentaries. This is worth looking at now that we have more time to snow dream. Don’t stop dreaming and planning – it will be worth it when we are able to get to the slopes again.

Why not make it more fun by getting dressed up in your snow gear for the night? I like referring to my one-piece Kjus as a snuggy though I am often told not to by my husband. He says Kjus and snuggy in the one sentence do not mix. Ok ok, so it is the world’s finest sportswear – but it is so comfy it feels like a snuggy.

  1. Get making S’Mores

Harlem enjoying Smores at Canyons, Park City

Get the kids involved in a ski snack idea and make some classic s’mores at home. You might not be in Big White having s’Mores on Saturday, but you could be in the future. Hot chocolate and s’mores by a bonfire followed by some tubing – yes please!

I am going to try this with Harlem on the weekend as it seems two-year-old friendly as long as the meltdown is the marshmallow and not him!

Big White are offering an awesome COVID-19 book with confidence policy for 2021 travel. If you want to know more just email me.

  1. Bringing the Après to you

Hotel Jerome for a whiskey at Apres hour – yes please!

We miss the Après that come with a snow holiday – the magical and mystical part of a snow holiday when the ski lifts close.  And yes this can include the kids!

For the first 10 people who book our Design now Pay Later service, we will bring the Après to you with a complimentary personalised après canape box and a delicious Australian wine to be enjoyed during a Zoom consult with  Snowscene travel owner, Emily.

Terms & conditions can be found online.

  1. Reminisce and Share

Get out the snow photos. Reminisce and share your most magical snow photos with us on socials #keepthesnowdreamalive.

Now might also be a good time to put together some photo albums.

I am a firm believer that travel makes you richer in all sorts of ways, and there truly is no holiday like a snow holiday.
