Naeba
Nestled in the mountains of Niigata Prefecture, Japan, Naeba Ski Resort is a prime winter playground for everyone – from first time skiers to seasoned powder chasers. Linked by the spectacular “Dragondola” to the neighbouring Kagura area, it boasts long runs, night skiing, children’s snow parks, and full facilities. Right at its base sits the Naeba Prince Hotel, offering slopeside access, hot springs, and roomy accommodation that make relaxing after a day on the snow just as enjoyable as the skiing itself.
Ski Resort: Mt. Naeba / Naeba Ski Area
Situated in Yuzawa‐town, Minamiuonuma district, in Niigata Prefecture, on the border with Gunma. From Tokyo it’s reachable in a couple of hours by bullet train (Shinkansen) to EchigoYuzawa, followed by a bus to the resort’s hotels. With 30 lifts/gondolas and over 134 hectares of terrain Naeba is suitable for all ability levels. From gentle gradients to advanced terrain with the longest run sitting at 4km, there’s something for everyone. The Dragondola gondola links both ski areas: Naeba with Kagura and both are accessible on your one lift pass. The Dragondola is lengthy and offers incredible views. Kids’ facilities including snow parks, “Family Snowland” (snow tubing, etc.), snowmobile excursions and snowshoe tours.
Naeba Prince Hotel
Naeba’s huge resort hotel is right at the base of the slopes, ski-in/ski-out style. With approximately 1,200+ rooms (various buildings/wings) to suit a range of travellers.
Room Types and Amenities:
- Room options from standard twins to larger family/interconnecting rooms, and luxury suites.
- Ensuite bathrooms, slopeside view or river view, proximity to lifts.
Resort Facilities:
- Multiple rental shops in the hotel buildings.
- Hot springs (onsen): there is an indoor hot spring for overnight guests (“Naeba no Yu”) and an outdoor one (“Hiuchi no Yu”). Great for soothing tired muscles.
Dining:
- Buffet restaurant within hotel, plus slopeside and neighbouring cafés and eateries. Local Niigata cuisine features.
- Shuttle / bus services: there are buses from Echigo Yuzawa station (especially helpful if arriving by train) and sometimes free shuttles during ski season.
