Queenstown
Queenstown is truly remarkable. If you are seeking to unwind, reconnect with nature, capture visually some of the best scenery in the world and top that off with active days on the slopes then Queenstown is the place for you. Not to mention the plethora of New Zealand’s infamous adventure tours, the Central Otago wineries and the incredible dining experiences on offer!
Flying directly into Queenstown International Airport, over the Crown Range you can view The Remarkables… what a way to kick start your ski holiday with stunning views before you have even set foot on the tarmac. Then a short 15-minute drive to downtown Queenstown and you have your home away from home for as long as you choose. Another exhilarating way to start your NZ holiday is with a Jetboat experience as soon as you land… some Queenstown hotels even have their own jetty so you can arrive in style door to door. Just ask your Snowscene consultant.
Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona & Treble Cone
With not one, but four world class ski resorts ranging from 30 – 90 minutes’ drive from stunning Queenstown there is a range of ski fields to choose from – Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona Alpine Resort and Treble Cone so no matter the ability of your group there is something for everyone. On the way back down from the slopes enjoy a soak in the Onsen Hot Pools to ease the ski legs and take in the stunning views over the Shotover River.
Queenstown accommodation is wide and varied however to avoid the need to drive to restaurants we recommend you stay walking distance to town or in lodgings accessible via shuttle bus or the water taxi. Hotels range from mid to luxury, from studio apartments to penthouses and even private residences on the lake.
Best known as the Adventure Capital of New Zealand
Queenstown is best known as the Adventure Capital of New Zealand and famous for the Central Otago Wine Region. With so many must do experiences a week simply will not do the destination justice. To see the true beauty of Queenstown from up high we recommend you take the Skyline Gondola up to Bob’s Peak and enjoy panoramic views of the Southern Alps across Lake Wakatipu. Whilst you’re at the top you can enjoy lunch or dinner at the Stratosfare Restaurant; Luge Rides; Stargazing; even Paragliding and Heli Flights are available from the top of the Skyline Gondola.
Having a day off from the slopes to allow yourself time to explore Queenstown and the local area at your own pace is what holidays are all about. Head out to historic and picturesque Arrowtown, an old mining town from the 1860s. This is a gorgeous spot for lunch or dinner, and a stroll through the museum and gold rush village is a cost-effective enjoyable day outside of Queenstown.
If you are a Lord of the Rings fanatic then 45 minutes outside of Queenstown you can access beautiful Glenorchy, another easy day trip and one of the most picturesque drives on offer in the South Island. This rustic NZ town is where you can walk some of the best hiking trails in New Zealand, go horse riding, jetboating and kayaking amongst other activities to be experienced on the Dart River.
Don’t know where to start? That is what we are here for… to help you plan your Queenstown Snow Holiday with a travel itinerary highlighting the very best that New Zealand’s South Island ski areas have to offer.
