Memoir by Narelle
Taking our four girls to Lapland for a white Christmas was one of those family adventures you hope your children will remember forever!
We started with a few days exploring Helsinki and enjoying the beautiful Christmas markets before heading to Levi, Finland’s largest and most popular ski resort. With its lovely village feel, it was the perfect place for the girls to experience skiing for the very first time!
After five days on the slopes, we travelled to Äkäslompolo, where we spent Christmas in a cosy log cabin tucked away in the Finnish forest. The holiday package included an incredibly authentic Santa experience, from visiting his workshop with real-life elves complete with pointy ears, to meeting Santa himself in his little fishing hut.
The girls had posted their letters to Santa while we were in Levi, and when we met him in Äkäslompolo, he had their very letters in his hand! The look on their faces was priceless, and it was pure Christmas magic!
Our days were filled with ice fishing, snowmobiling, husky and reindeer safaris, visiting an ice hotel and admiring the spectacular Northern Lights. Experiencing a place where the sun never really rises at that time of year was something quite different for the girls, too!
It’s certainly a significant investment, but one that was worth every cent. The experiences, the Christmas magic and the memories we made together as a family are priceless. Lapland truly is a trip of a lifetime and deserves a place on everyone’s bucket list!
