Palm trees and swimming pool at club med mauritius

Mauritius Magic at Club Med

Memoir by Emma

I recently travelled to Mauritius with friends, splitting our stay between Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers and Club Med Albion Villas, and both offered completely different but equally amazing experiences.

Club Med in Mauritius had been on my list for quite some time. With beautiful beaches, turquoise ocean, and the unique mix of cultures, Mauritius offered everything I look for in a dream summer escape. Choosing Club Med meant I could enjoy all of those experiences, while also returning to the familiar style of holiday I love across the 21 Club Med resorts I have had the pleasure of visiting around the world.

One of the biggest surprises was how easy Mauritius was to get to from Australia. Given its location off the east coast of Africa, it’s easy to imagine it would be a difficult destination to get to, but the direct flights from Perth on Air Mauritius made the journey incredibly straightforward. It turned what feels like a remote Indian Ocean paradise into a surprisingly accessible holiday destination.

La Pointe aux Canonniers was the standout for beach lovers. The water was absolutely stunning, with a beautiful stretch of white sand and calm turquoise lagoon that felt postcard-perfect every day. The atmosphere was relaxed, social, and ideal for spending long afternoons swimming, paddleboarding, or simply soaking up the scenery with friends.

Albion, on the other hand, felt noticeably more refined and upmarket. The resort itself was elegant and spacious, with a quieter and more luxurious feel throughout. What really made the experience exceptional was the staff, where every interaction felt warm, genuine, and attentive. The service at Albion was a level above and made the stay feel especially personalised and relaxing. The sunsets over the infinity Zen pool were also some of the best
you’ll ever see! The kind of view that takes your breath away, makes you stop, sit quietly, and appreciate exactly where you are.

Both Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers and Club Med Albion are also fantastic options for families, with excellent kids’ clubs and plenty of activities for children of all ages. La Pointe caters for little ones from as young as 4 months old, while Albion’s kids club starts from 2 years old, making both resorts very family-friendly and easy for parents to properly relax.

In my opinion, Albion has the edge for families wanting a broader range of resort activities, including Club Med’s signature flying trapeze, which La Pointe doesn’t offer. That said, La Pointe’s beautiful calm lagoon, relaxed atmosphere, and complimentary water skiing still make it an incredible choice for both families and groups of friends alike.

Having stayed at both, I’d say La Pointe wins for the beach and laid-back island vibe, while Albion stands out for luxury, service, and overall sophistication. Together, they gave us the perfect mix of fun, relaxation, and indulgence, and I’d happily return to both and send my travellers to either or both resorts.
