Snowboarding skiing in St Moritz Snowscene luxury ski holiday travel experts

From a Client’s Lens

We returned from St Moritz with the sense that certain places transcend being mere destinations. They become experiences that linger well beyond the visit itself – and Suvretta House is firmly in that category. We would go there again just to go to Suvretta House as many of its customers do.

From arrival, it was clear this operates at a level apart. Suvretta House exists within its own ecosystem: highly refined, deeply traditional, and calibrated for a clientele accustomed to the top end of the market. Staying there feels less like checking into a hotel and more like briefly stepping into a different way of living – one defined by discretion, continuity, and quiet confidence rather than overt display. If you want overt display you go to Btadrutts

What stands out most is the precision. Every aspect of the service is deliberate and highly controlled. Initially, there is a degree of formality in the interactions – understandable given the guest profile – but this gradually gives way to something more natural. Once that shift occurs, the service feels not only polished, but genuinely thoughtful. It is very obvious that every aspect of the resort has been carefully thought out over the many years of its existence.

There is also a distinct rhythm to the place. Even something as routine as breakfast is treated as a proper occasion: full silver service, unhurried, and with a consistent dress standard that subtly reinforces the broader setting. It’s the sort of environment that rewards leaning into it – meeting the setting halfway materially improves the experience. Still informal enough to meet people as we did.

The facilities are exceptional. The pool, spa and gym are not just well executed, but maintained to a standard that is rare even among comparable properties. They are spaces designed as much for lingering as for use. The new pool / spa / and gym are very special. There is a very large spa pool with a large variety of massage jets which is perfect for after skiing. The gym is small as you would usually expect but it has very good Technogym equipment. I tend not to need a gym on ski trips other than maybe a bit of stretching. There is a yoga / pilates studio complete with reformers that I think you can use when there are not classes. The classes were prohibitively expensive.

St Moritz itself offers a noticeably different proposition to more traditional alpine villages such as Zermatt. It is less centred on skiing as a singular focus and more of a broader alpine hub – larger, more cosmopolitan, and balanced across winter and lakeside life. It inevitably sacrifices some of the intimacy and character that define Zermatt, but in return offers scale and variety.

Access from Suvretta House into Corviglia is straightforward, though the ski experience there is as much about atmosphere as terrain. While it didn’t fully resonate from a skiing perspective, we found more compelling runs across the lake at Corvatsch, and further afield at Diavolezza and Lagalb. This is where the more down to earth locals seem to ski. Cross country skiing is huge with the locals and there seems to be a lot of available trails.

Conditions during our stay were favourable – clear skies throughout, which gave the landscape that distinctive alpine clarity. The skiing itself tends towards the scenic rather than technical: well-groomed, often firm underfoot, and best approached with an appreciation for the setting as much as the descent.

In the end, while St Moritz as a ski destination didn’t deliver quite the same connection as Zermatt, Suvretta House more than offset that. It reframed the trip entirely – less about skiing alone and more about experiencing a certain standard of alpine living.

It’s not simply a place we visited, but one that leaves a lasting impression.
