Snowboarding skiing in St Moritz Snowscene luxury ski holiday travel experts

From a Client’s Lens

Snowscene recently had clients return from St Moritz and we asked them to share their thoughts and experience on their stay.

We returned from St. Moritz with a sense that some places are not just destinations, but experiences that stay with you long after you leave – and Suvretta House is unquestionably one of them.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear this was no ordinary hotel. Suvretta House operates in a world of its own, an ultra high-end retreat designed for those accustomed to the very finest things in life. Staying there felt like stepping briefly into a rarified lifestyle, one shaped by tradition, discretion, and effortless luxury. It’s the kind of place you don’t just visit, you absorb. For us, it truly felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

What stood out most was the remarkable balance between grandeur and precision in service. Every detail is considered, every interaction measured. The staff deliver an exceptionally high standard, though with a certain reserve at first – understandable, given the clientele they’re used to hosting. Over time, however, that formality softens, revealing a warmth that feels genuine and earned.

There’s also a rhythm to life at Suvretta House. Even breakfast is an occasion of silver service, elegantly paced, with guests dressed in refined smart casual. We’ll admit, we felt slightly underdressed at times. To fully appreciate the experience, you need to lean into it to match the setting and participate in the atmosphere.

The facilities are equally impressive. The pool, spa and gym are among the finest we’ve encountered anywhere in the world. They are beautifully maintained spaces that invite both relaxation and indulgence.

As for St. Moritz itself, it offers something quite different from more traditional ski destinations like Zermatt. This is less a pure skier’s village and more a sophisticated alpine hub that equally focuses on winter leisure, summer activities and lakeside living. It’s larger, more cosmopolitan, and while it lacks some of the intimate charm and heritage feel of Zermatt, it compensates with breadth and variety.

Suvretta House provides convenient access to the Corviglia ski area, known as much for its social scene as its slopes. While the terrain there didn’t quite resonate with us, we found more rewarding skiing across the lake at Corvatsch, and further afield at Diavolezza and Lagalb.

We were fortunate with conditions, clear blue skies greeted us each day, casting the landscape in that unmistakable alpine brilliance. The skiing itself leaned more toward scenic touring than technical challenge, with well-groomed trails that could be firm and fast underfoot. It’s a style of skiing that encourages you to take in the surroundings as much as the descent.

In the end, while St. Moritz may not have delivered the same emotional connection as Zermatt from a skiing perspective, Suvretta House elevated the entire journey. It transformed the trip into something far more memorable, an immersion into a world of understated luxury and timeless alpine elegance.

It’s not just a place we visited; it’s one we’ll always remember.
