Mt Hutt
Voted NZ’s Best Ski Resort multiple times – Find out why?
A scenic 90-minute drive from Christchurch Airport and just 35 minutes from Methven village, Mt Hutt is renowned for its big snowfalls. Natural snow is captured in its south facing basin and combined with 75 snow guns, Mt Hutt consistently has one of the longest ski seasons in New Zealand’s South Island.
Featuring modern chair lifts and comprehensive facilities, the ski area is perfect for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. The trail network includes dedicated learning areas with a 140m-long Magic Carpet and wide, open runs for novices. Mt Hutt’s also a favourite with the most advanced skiers and snowboarders, who can experience steep challenges with off-piste areas and extensive powder bowls at South Face and the Rakaia Saddle Chutes.
Freestylers are well catered for with 3 progressive terrain parks. The beginner Sky High terrain park, a novice/intermediate park and the advanced level TRIC park.
There’s a lot to love with the superb conditions, spectacular terrain, laid back kiwi hospitality, and some good on mountain dining too at the Sky High Cafe, Sixteen 10 Coffee Bar, Hubers Hut or the Ice Bar.
Keen for First Tracks? Start the day with the mountain to yourself on Saturdays and Sundays from 8-9am with Mt Hutt’s First Tracks Pass.
Not skiing? Take a trip on the Summit Six Chairlift at Mt Hutt Ski Field for stunning views over the Canterbury Plains.
