Crested Butte

In Crested Butte they say “Here in the wild we are free to be who we are; not what’s expected” and Crested Butte will allow you to let your hair down and feed your appetite for a challenge. Crested Butte will captivate your heart and soul and have you wanting to rebook before you even leave.

Colorado is home to authentic historical towns and some of the best skiing in North America. Some have seen major developments and crowds flock to their streets but Crested Butte township and ski resort have remained down to earth and is now known as Colorado’s last great ski town.

Crested Butte is located off the beaten path in central Colorado, within the Gunnison National Forest and Elk Mountain Range. Crested Butte is a ski resort and ski town which is connected by a free shuttle bus from the ski resort base to the town of Crested Butte. The buildings in town are colourful and full of character (once a mining town) and you feel like you are on the set of a Western movie surrounded by 1.7 million acres of National forest.

Walking down Crested Butte’s pedestrian friendly main street you will find great restaurants, art galleries, live music, bars, and cafes just on a smaller, neater scale. In fact, Crested Butte boasts more gourmet restaurants than any other Colorado town its size. From traditional French to homestyle American, budget burritos to lavish feasts, there’s a restaurant for every palate and budget in Crested Butte. Winter in Crested Butte is jam packed full of activities and events for everyone to enjoy. Whether it’s catching a local hockey game, ice skating with the kids or experiencing some live music at the Mountain High Country Music Festival featuring world class musicians and performances; there always something to discover and enjoy.

With more than 1500 skiable acres, Crested Butte’s terrain is suitable for all levels of skiers and boarders. The peaks of Crested Butte are famous for backcountry skiing and ski mountaineering. There’s also Nordic and cross country skiing with no shortage of trails. Even if you don’t ski you can enjoy sleigh and horseback rides, fly fishing, snowshoeing, ice skating and more.

The kids are well looked after with an excellent ski school, dog sledding through the hills of Gunnison Valley, tubing, snowshoeing, and a movie theatre for when the weather sets in.

Accommodation options in Crested Butte range from small unique hotels to larger condos to fit the whole family or a large group. You will find a mix of charming mountain lodges and modern luxury condos and hotels. Slope side and Ski in Ski out properties can be found at the base of the ski village located approximately 4kms from Crested Butte township.

If you want to create your own unique memories in this historic coal mining town and write a script for your own western ski story, then Crested Butte is where you need to be for your next snow adventure.
