Heron Island

Heron Island is located on the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef… The UNESCO World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef is one of the best managed marine areas and tourism experiences in the world!

Heron is accessible by boat transfer, seaplane or helicopter from Gladstone. The Sunscene team can guide you on the turtle nesting season, an experience not to miss!

Discover the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef as well as phenomenal birdlife and of course the turtles.  Heron Island and the Great Barrier Reef are a significant nesting location for two sea turtle species, the Green Turtle and the Loggerhead. Nesting season occurs from November to March each year, with hatchlings beginning to emerge in early January.

Snorkelling can be done right off the beach from the resort which is unique to Heron Island. There are many coral reefs just minutes from the island to explore as well.  Sunscene highly recommend these boat trips as they will be a highlight of your holiday, as well as the Guided SUP and Kayak Tours.
