Tokiwaya Ryokan

Tokiwaya Ryokan is an impressive Japanese Onsen Hotel on Oyudori (Nozawa’s main street) right in the heart of Nozawa Onsen Village.  Staying in the centre of the village means you can easily discover Nozawa on foot with many of our favourite bars and restaurants just a short stroll away. For accessing the slopes, it is a 250m walk to the Yu Road Moving Walkway which takes you up to the Hikage Ski Area, or a 10 minute walk to the Nagasaka Gondola.

Accommodation at Tokiwaya Ryokan includes a variety of Japanese rooms featuring lovely traditional architecture, tatami matting, rice paper screens, futon bedding and complimentary yukata robes for guests. The hotel now has some western style rooms suitable for families and couples looking for a comfortable yet authentic Japanese hotel experience.  All rooms have their own ensuite bathrooms and amenities.

And last but not least we highly recommend coming down off the slopes for a massage and ‘hot spring’ onsen at the end of the day.  Tokiwaya’s spacious indoor onsens are naturally heated and mineralised, perfect for relaxation and soothing any aching muscles. The onsens are open day and night, and only close for a short time in the morning for cleaning. As in most onsens, the baths are separated for men and women.

For a charming Japanese onsen hotel with friendly English speaking staff, we love the warm and friendly atmosphere at Tokiwaya.  Immerse yourself in Japanese culture and experience a traditional ryokan with a 370 year old history!
