Located in the Nagano region of the pristine Northern Japan Alps, Hakuba stands out as one of Japan’s top ski resort areas. With over 10 ski resorts stretched across a broad valley, Hakuba provides more terrain, vertical rise and advanced ski and snowboard slopes than anywhere in Japan. Abundant snow falls (around 10 metres annually) and excellent powder conditions make Hakuba a great choice for skiers and snowboarders of all ability levels from beginners to the advanced, with something for everyone.
10+ Resorts – 135 Lifts – Over 200 Runs
The ski resorts are located across the Hakuba Valley, with our recommended Groups Accommodation all within easy reach (if not Ski in Ski out) to the local villages of either Happo, Wadano, Goryu & Tsugaike. Plenty of snow, miles of trails and easy access from Tokyo by Coach Transfer (approximately 5hrs) or Shinkansen (Bullet Train approximately 4hrs).
In addition to its spectacular ski resorts, the Nagano region is an ideal choice for school groups due to its huge variety of cultural tours and local attractions. Visit Matsumoto Castle and Zenkoji Temple; enjoy a Taiko Drumming Show; experience Kimono dress, Origami teaching and a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony; not to mention participating in authentic Japanese Karaoke; or an easy hike to the Japanese Macaques (snow monkeys) who love bathing in the hot springs near Yudanaka Onsen. Right in Hakuba itself you can visit the Olympic Ski Jumping Stadium built for the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics; along with Hosono Suwa Shrine (a giant sacred Japanese cedar estimated to be more than 1,000 years old and over 40m tall).
Let our Snowscene Groups Specialists tailor-make your next ski trip to Japan, complete with culturally rich excursions and culinary delights.
