Club Med Kani… ticked off my Bucket List!

By Siobhan Kay.

Last year I was fortunate enough to visit a personal bucket list destination, the Maldives, staying at Club Med Kani Resort.

What a dream come true! I’ve always seen photos of the amazing crystal-clear water and pure white sandy beaches that is the Maldives and thought it can’t be real. But let me tell you, it’s exactly like what you see in pictures.   We arrived via speedboat to Club Med Kani in the late evening. After travelling from Brisbane via Singapore and onto Male with the beautiful Singapore Airlines I wasn’t sure what to expect when the sun came up the next day. To my surprise as I looked out the window of my beachfront villa, there was that pure white sand, the tropical leafy green palm trees and then that gorgeous crystal-clear water that looked like glass glistening in the early sunlight.

Leaving my shoes behind I took a stroll around the island enjoying the place to myself while other guests slept in.  Brekky time rolled around and I was spoiled for choice. I could have bacon, eggs any way, fruits, cereal and delicious French pastries, the list was endless. I of course opted for eggs benedict followed by a plate of fresh fruit to kick start my day. Tables were set up along the beach, overlooking the water making it a very unique experience and something to brag to my friends about. The great part about Club Med is their ‘all-inclusive’ packages.

Now time for activities, with so many to choose from I was happy to have my Club Med app handy and ready to go making organising my day nice and simple. There was plenty of time for relaxing later so first up I signed up for snorkelling, a sailing lesson and the Flying Trapeze School, when in Rome right?

Club Med offer great water sports for the ocean lovers. Surfing, Scuba Diving, Water skiing as well as Stand Up Paddle Board and Glass Bottom Kayak are all available to add onto your Club Med stay. For the surfers out there… from Club Med Kani (North Male Atolls) you can walk out over the reef to Ninjas Surf Break (a right hander good for long boarders. From Club Med Finolhu the staff can arrange a speedboat to Kani Resort for Ninjas Surf Break.

After snorkelling with turtles, learning to sail and flying like a bird I pulled up a lounger in front of my villa for a much-needed rest. Club Med staff are always on hand to ensure you are having the best time possible. At one point I looked up from my book and there was a golf buggy driving along the sand offering guests a cool beverage or light snack. I couldn’t say no to an icy cold Margarita! Did I mention drinks, including cocktails are all part of the all-inclusive package?

My thrilling day ended with a dip in the ocean and cocktails at the Sunset Bar to watch the sun dip below the ocean, what a sight.

With several different restaurants to choose from for dinner, we were once again spoiled for choice.  I was excited to try the local cuisine but if you are craving an Italian Pasta, Club Med will deliver. You can be sure to get every type of food from all over the world whilst at Club Med, keeping even the fustiest eaters happy. All options are plated and served individually to your plate by a chef at stations.

My days in the Maldives sadly came to an end however the adventure still continues with our next stop, Club Med Bintan, Indonesia!  Back with Singapore Airlines we flew from Male to Singapore then jumped on a ferry and headed over the Bintan Island. I will talk more about that next week!
